Approximately 900km. from the Swedish mainland lies Gotland, the largest island in the Baltic Sea. Risugns Farm is situated about 45km.
north of Visby with its magnificent ring wall, in a beautiful pastoral setting of softly rolling pastures and woodland, close to a lovely
coastline with great beaches. The parish of Rute, with its medieval church, has a population of about 350 people year round, but in the
summer it is a holiday paradise for many more.
The farm is certified as using organic agricultural methods making Risungs Farm one of the largest producers of organic lamb in Sweden.
In the early 1990s the farm had only 80 ewes. The flock now comprises over 400 ewes and 600 lambs that graze there year round.
Over the years the farm has undergone major changes and now there is a farm shop where you can buy fine sheepskin products from t
he farm manufactured in their own workshop.
Going on a Truffle Hunt on Gotland is an experience beyond the ordinary.
Ulla Berglund, from Risungs Farm and her neighbour/colleague Carina Ahlqvist, from Ahlby Farm supply truffles to "Paul and Norbert",
a well-known Stockholm restaurant, and other fine dining establishments in Stockholm and Copenhagen.
During the period October 1 to November 30, we also accept bookings from small groups to join us on an exciting truffle hunt.
An excursion involves searching in local woods with Italian truffle dogs for two hours. Hopefully you will be able to experience the
suspense and excitement of finding a truffle, gently picking it up out of the soil and getting a whiff of its sensual earthy aroma.
After telling you about how truffles were discovered on Gotland and information on how they grow, Ulla and Carina offer everyone a
taste accompanied by good wine or water.
